What is a Swap? Tammy & Terri (the “Hostesses”) will post a swap here at the store. They will list the rules and guidelines (including the due date) for the swap and give the swap theme. The individuals that sign-up to join the swap are known as swappers. There will be 2 swaps running for each month – you may join one or both. The due date for all swaps will be the 4th Friday of the month.
When the hostesses post the swap, they will list the spots that are available for sign-up and will list the requirements for each spot. For example: if one spot is for eyelets, they may require that you provide 10pp (10 per person) for that spot. If one spot is for fibers, they may require a certain yardage per person. It’s always a good idea to look at the requirements before you sign up for the swap. |

The first and most important thing you should look at when determining if you want to sign up for a swap is the swap due date. Do not sign up for a swap if you can’t have your items done and back to the store on time. Swaps have many different spots to sign up for. The potential swapper looks through the list to see if there’s anything that sparks their interest. If you see something that is open and that you would like to sign-up for, let one of the Hostesses know.
For example: If the swap has 10 spots that means that 10 people will be participating. Each swapper is required to send in 10 items for their spots. If you signed up for eyelets and it was indicated that you send in 10 per person, you would put 10 eyelets in a small plastic zip-lock bag and repeat this until you have 10 small plastics bags with eyelets. You would take all 10 of your items to the store. When all items have been received, the Hostesses will swap them out and you will get one of your own items back plus 9 new things.
Important Things to Remember About Swapping: Always check the due date before you sign up. Make sure you can have you items done and back to the store on time. Don’t wait until the last second to get your items done! This usually will leave you extremely stressed out and rush jobs are not of high quality. ALWAYS package your items. If you have a spot for paper, you don’t have to package individually - just put all of your paper into one large bag. But, if you have eyelets, brads or other small items, please put each set (10pp or whatever is called for) in separate bags. Print out some labels with your name and the name of the swap/group, then put the labels on each individual bag. Then put all of your smaller bags into one larger bag to take to the store – when you get your swap items back, they will be returned in your large bag…easy for you and for the hostesses. Communicate. If you can’t complete your swap on time, let them know. Don’t wait until the day before the swap is due to communicate this. Give them at least 2 weeks notice so they can find an ‘angel’ to fill your spot. If you don’t give them notice or communicate with them and then fail to send in your items on time, you will not be permitted to sign up for future swaps. If you need more time, please let them know!Have fun! Swaps are supposed to be fun and educational. They are a way to get to know others in your swap and to learn many new ideas and ways of doing things. Even seasoned scrappers have a lot to learn – there are always new things happening! |
